Plan to get the immense pleasure from scenic beauty - Enchanting Alleppey : 3 Nights & 4 days
viewThe history of Kerala, also known as the “Gods Own Country”, India, dates back more than several millions of years. The carving at the Edakkal Caves with symbolic writings is understood to be dated to the New Stone Age period around 5,000 BC, indicative of the existence of ancient civilization in this state. Kerala had been well-known as a most important Spice trade hub from the beginning of 3000 BC.
About three thousand years ago, Kerala had good trade relations with Greek, Arab, Jew, Roman merchants and mariners. Muziris, was a port where ships sailed, anchored and traded precious metals and stones which includes gold and silver for Spices, pepper, making the region an international trade Centre of goods between 100 B.C. and 100 A.D. Monumental signs in Kodungallur, Kerala of an old Kali temple advocates the cultural and religious importance of the region. Kerala has the country’s oldest churches, synagogues and mosques. Local folklores date the Jewish connection with Kerala to the times of King Solomon.
The ancient history of Kerala is masked in the myths and belief. It is believed that the prawn-shaped land extending from Gokarnam to Kanyakumari, now the state of Kerala was created from the deep ocean by Parasurama, a Brahmin incarnation of Lord Vishnu, by casting an axe into the midst of the mighty ocean. With a region of 38.855 square kilometers Kerala is the smallest state in India just 1.3 percent of the total area of India. The state of Kerala is blessed with its fast flowing rivers, evergreen mountains, splendid palms and sandals, thick forests, widespread backwaters and blue lagoons.
Kerala has a variety and a wealthy heritage of long-established, literature, rituals, crafts and performing art forms. Kerala is well known for its progressive outlooks by contact with the outside world for centuries. Kathakali, Koodiyattam and Kalaripayattu are prominent forms cultural expressions in Kerala. Kerala is now a tourist delight that National Geographic Traveller magazine voted as one of the 50 must-see places in the world.
